KENTECH PSL focuses on stable transition to future power grids based on sustainable and eco-friendly energy sources. Energy paradigm has changed from traditional and unidirectional fossil fuel-based energy systems to modern power grids including ①new facilities such as photovoltaics (PVs), wind powers, and energy storage systems (ESSs), ②hybrid AC/DC transmission&distribution networks, and ③demand response for power balancing, which covers all the range of generation, transmission, distribution, and load sides.To address these changes, we research the optimal design, operation, control, protection, and restoration of power systems, inverter-based resource (IBR) control, energy management system (EMS), smart grid, and microgrid (MG). Circuit theory, control theory, electrical machinery, power system analysis, power electronics, and optimization techniques are the basis of our research. We utilize a variety of power system S/W, H/W simulators, and developed programs to analyze static and dynamic characteristics of future power grids, find optimal solutions, and validate the solutions on H/W platforms. Ultimately, we can contribute to resolving energy poverty and achieving carbon neutrality.
